Continuing Education Credit

The Texas WIC Nutrition and Breastfeeding Conference, organized by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), provides an opportunity to obtain continuing education credits for several professions. The agency is in the process of obtaining continuing education hours from the following professional organizations for the upcoming 2008 conference.

Texas Nurses Association

The Texas Nurses Association (TNA) is a statewide, membership-based association of registered nurses (RNs). Founded in 1907, TNA is the oldest professional nursing association in Texas. TNA continually strives to ensure that high-quality, continuing nursing education (CNE) is available for Texas nurses. TNA’s ANCC-approved accreditation body reviews CNE programs and providers to assure that they meet national criteria for CNE. Approved programs and TNA-provided programs also meet the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners' Type 1 CNE requirement for relicensure.

The Commission on Dietetic Registration

The Commission on Dietetic Registration protects the public through credentialing processes of dietetics practitioners. More than 76,000 dietitians and dietetic technicians across the country and the world have taken CDR exams over the past several decades. CDR currently awards four separate and distinct credentials: Registered Dietitian (RD); Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR); Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR); and Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP). The Commission's certification programs are fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the accrediting arm of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA) based in Washington, D.C.

International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners

The primary purpose of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) is to benefit the public by setting standards for the lactation consultant profession. The IBLCE is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. It was established to develop and administer the certification examination for lactation consultants. The IBLCE examination is the premier, internationally recognized measure of competence in lactation consulting. Founded in 1985, the IBLCE has administered annual examinations, in multiple languages and at numerous sites around the world. IBLCE has been fully accredited by the prestigious US National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the body which sets stringent standards for certifying organizations.
